The Ontario International Airport Authority – ONT – and the City of Ontario California’s newly acquired airport received an early Christmas gift from J. D. Power this week.  In a new, J.D. Power, 2016 North America Airport Satisfaction Study, J.D Power ranked Southern California’s, Ontario International Airport #1 in the greater Los Angeles area with 4 stars and ranked ONT 6thnationally for medium sized airports.  With 4 stars, ONT tops Bob Hope-Burbank and John Wayne-Orange County, both with 3 stars and the bottom ranked LAX stuck at 2 stars and near the bottom nationally for large airports.

According to J.D Powers, the Airport Satisfaction Study “measures overall traveler satisfaction with large and medium North American airports by examining six factors (in order of importance): terminal facilities; airport accessibility; security check; baggage claim; check-in/baggage check; food, beverage and retail.

The 2016 North America Airport Satisfaction Study is based on responses from 38,931 North American travelers who traveled through at least one domestic or international airport with both departure and arrival experiences (excluding connecting airports) during the past three months. Travelers evaluated either a departing or arriving airport from their round trip experience. Only evaluations of North American airports are included in the official rankings, which was comprised of 36,465 responses. The study was fielded from January through October 2016.”

The city of Ontario wrested control of the airport from Los Angeles World Airports this year in an attempt reverse ONT’s sagging fortunes According the Los Angeles Times,
ONT “saw dramatic cuts in airline service and its annual passenger volume plunge from 7.2 million in 2007 to 3.97 million in 2013.”

As many residents of the Inland Empire told OntarioCANews, ONT’s a breeze for travelers and in stark contrast to the other airports encountered in this post-9/11 era.
